Senior DevOps / Cloud Engineer (AWS)
On-Prem to Cloud Transformation – Public Sector
Overview
We are seeking a Senior DevOps / Cloud Engineer with a strong software development background to support a large-scale on-premises to cloud transformation initiative for public sector systems. This role will primarily support our end client, with opportunities to contribute to additional projects as the organization grows.
This is not a traditional infrastructure-only DevOps role. The ideal candidate understands system architecture end-to-end, is comfortable writing and reviewing code, and can partner closely with engineering teams to modernize and cloud-enable complex, mission-critical platforms.
What You’ll Do
- Lead and support on-prem to AWS cloud migrations for public sector applications
- Design, build, and maintain cloud-native architectures with scalability, security, and reliability in mind
- Implement and manage Infrastructure as Code using Terraform
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps
- Deploy and manage containerized applications using Kubernetes, Helm, and ArgoCD
- Collaborate with software engineers to ensure DevOps practices align with application architecture and development workflows
- Write, review, and troubleshoot code to support automation, tooling, and deployment processes
- Improve observability, reliability, and deployment consistency across environments
- Contribute to DevOps standards, best practices, and long-term platform strategy
Required Qualifications
- Strong experience as a DevOps Engineer or Cloud Engineer with AWS
- Background in software development (not just infrastructure or ops)
- Experience supporting on-prem to cloud transformation projects
- Hands-on expertise with:
- AWS
- Terraform
- Azure DevOps pipelines
- Kubernetes
- Helm charts
- ArgoCD
- Solid understanding of system architecture and distributed systems
- Experience working in regulated or public sector environments is a plus
Nice to Have
- Professional experience with .NET applications in production environments
- Experience scripting or building tools with Python
- Familiarity with cloud security, compliance, and governance in public sector systems
